Hosea
"The Faithfulness of God"

Hosea’s Family Story

* The children’s names preach judgment: Jezreel, Lo-ruhamah = “no mercy”, Lo-ammi = “not my people”.

* Israel is the unfaithful wife chasing other lovers.

* Hosea is told to love again, the scandal is the point. People are meant to stare and ask questions.

Israel Treats God Like Gomer Treats Hosea

* Israel shows no faithfulness, no steadfast love, no knowledge of God in the land.

* They want to judge unfaithfulness in others while being adulterers themselves.

God’s Faithfulness

* He remains committed to His people even when they are not committed to Him. His love does not evaporate when they rebel, and His purpose for them is not canceled by their unfaithfulness.

The Gospel in Hosea

* We are Gomer. We wander. We take the gifts and chase other lovers.
* Our idols are success, comfort, money, politics, entertainment, approval, careers, children, and plans.
* Jesus is the greater Bridegroom. He comes for unfaithful people, bears our judgment, and brings us home.

So now what?

When you see that you have wandered, do not run further away in shame. Come home. Put away the other lovers. Walk faithfully in marriage, family, church, work, and private life—and when you fail, look again to Christ.
