Numbers 14
From Doubt to Destruction

I. The Setup: God Prepares His People

* After 13 months since the Exodus is it time to go to the Promised Land.
* The People of Israel have grown from just 70 to 603,550 fighting men. The total population is likely well over 2 million people

II. The Spies and the Report

* The spies after 40 days of surveying the land come back with a bad  report and talks of tall warriors, fortified and large cities and strong walls.

III. The Process of Doubt to Destruction

Step 1 – Doubt
* Fear overrides God’s word and causes us to question God’s character and promises

Step 2 – Disobedience
* Doubt causes God’s commands to be ignored or not carried out.

Step 3 – Rebellion
* Where has disobedience is the refusal to obey or act on a specific command, rebellion is the active opposition to authority itself.

Step 4 – Destruction
* Active rebellion to God will always be met with judgement from God.
