I. The Central Message of Leviticus
* God is holy and requires his people to be holy.
* The book shows there is a way to be made right with God through atonement
* “Atonement” is used over 50 times — covering or removing sin through a sacrificial substitute
II. The Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16)
* God provided the people with a picture of how the guilt of sin was removed and fellowship restored in the Day of Atonement.
III. Christ – The True Atonement
* Old sacrifices could not take away sins — they only reminded people of sin.
* Jesus put off His glory, humbled Himself, and became both goats.
IV. The Call of the Transformed Life
* Leviticus 19:2 — “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”
* Sin is 6 things:
-Transgression
-Inordinate desire
-Deficiency of love to God and man
-Preference to self
-Insubordination
-Lack of conformity to God or his law
So now what?
Take the fight against sin seriously so that the presence of God can fill our lives and this church. Jesus is sufficient for both forgiveness and holy living.
