But God: The Turning Point of Our Story

1. State of Man (note: v. 1-3)

3 Things we learn about the state of People today:

  • its people’s Way of Life - The Greek word in verse 2 for “walked” means or has the sense of conduct one’s life, comport oneself, behave, live as habit of conduct. (note: Isaiah 59:2-4)
  • People are followers of the world and the Influences of Satan (note: Romans 1:29-32; Ephesians 6:12)
  • Man’s natural state is about fulfilling carnal desires and worldly passions (note: 1 John 2:15-17)

2.  Sentence against Man (note: v.3)

  • The true tragedy of human state is that not only are we trading better joys for lesser. Giving up what is eternal and everlasting for what’s fleeting and temporary. But the true
tragedy is the sentence against man for this trade. (note: Zephaniah 1:14-15; Romans 2:5-6)
  • Condemnation, Death and Judgement is what man has traded for, and this is the fate of all mankind.

3. Succor for Man (note: v. 4-5)

  • Despite our sinfulness and deserved wrath, God's boundless love and mercy triumph, granting us life through Christ’s grace—a hope that transforms despair into salvation
  • Though we were dead in sin, God's rich mercy and great love made us alive in Christ—by grace alone, we are saved.

So now what?

  • Put away the old self. Don’t gratify its lusts, don’t give in to desires
  • Rest on the mercy of God and walk in the love of God
