Today, we’ll explore four distinct ways believers walk that prove their faith, shining as a testimony to God’s grace in a world lost in darkness.
1. Walking in Holiness (note: v. 3-7)
* Those who come to understand the gospel and are influenced by the spirit. They avoid all forms of sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness.
* We need to recognize that judgement is coming on those who persist in sinful ways, and we choose to live differently.
2. Walking in the Light (note: v. 8-14)
* Bear Fruit: Walking in the light produces a character marked by the fruit of goodness, righteousness, and truth, in contrast to the destructive traits of darkness.
* Expose Darkness: Walking in the light involves actively exposing and confronting the evils of darkness, such as greed, abuse, and injustice, to reveal their true nature.
3. Walking in Wisdom (note: v. 15-17)
* The fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom, which is actively offered to all but must be chosen. Ignoring or despising wisdom leads to inevitable consequences, while pursuing it aligns one with righteousness and understanding.
4. Walking in the Spirit (note: v.18-21)
* Spirit-filled worship, constant gratitude, mutual submission, can only be done through the power and transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
* Christ is not a reservoir but a spring. His life is continual, active and ever passing on with an outflow as necessary as its inflow. If we do not perpetually draw the fresh supply from the living Fountain, we shall either grow stagnant or empty. It is, therefore, not so much a perpetual fullness as a perpetual filling. – A.B. Simpson
So now what?
* Let’s choose starting from this day to walk in the manner that God has laid out for us, for those who have been convinced of the good news of Christ.
