There much that comes to us in Christ. In Christ the believer finds, spiritual blessings, the revelation of God’s plan and the reason to praise his glory.
IN CHRIST:
1. Spiritual Blessings are Found chief of which is adoption as sons (note: v. 3-8)
What Paul tells us about this adoption in Christ:
- This adoption is predestined based on his love. (note: Deuteronomy 7:7)
- Our adoption is according to the purpose of his will
- Our adoption is based on Grace
- Redemption is through his blood
- There is forgiveness of sins
- This adoption concerns us Gentiles
2. The mysterious plan of God is revealed (note: v. 9-11)
Paul has in other places in scripture stated that the inclusion of the Gentiles is a mystery that he is now revealing. (note: Romans 11:25-26; Colossians 1:24-27)
This plan is according to his purpose and was waiting for the occasion of the arrival of Jesus who acts as the steward or administrator of this Grace.
You have specific blessings, given through a specific person, during specific times, and
none of this was by chance, It’s God’s will and his plan.
3. We Praise his Glory (note: v. 12-14)
Paul clearly explains that God’s plan—through which we receive an inheritance and are adopted as sons—is predestined according to His will, echoing Romans 8:28 “All things working together for good”. In verse 12, the phrase “so that” reveals the purpose: to the
praise of His glory.
The Gentiles when we heard the word of truth, the gospel of our salvation, and we believed in him, we were then sealed with the promised Holy Spirit who is our guarantee
of our inheritance.
So now what?
- If God’s purpose was that we’d praise, then let’s praise him in word, thought and deed. Let our lives be ones that reflect this glory that is revealed to us
