Titus 2
The Importance of Sound Doctrine

This week we continue in our short series in Titus: Building Up a Godly Church in the Midst of Darkness. We learned last week that God has given us Qualified leaders and this week we see the importance of sound doctrine for defending us against ungodliness and building up a healthy church.

1.  Sound Doctrine is meant to be Transformative.

* “It is the great work of nature to transmute sunlight into life. So it is the great end of Christian living to transmute the light of truth into the fruits of holy living.” - Adoniram J. Gordon

* The intention of the gospel is not to overthrow particular cultural establishments, but to transform them by a new ethic.

2. Everyone has a Responsibility to Model Godliness.

* All believers must model godly character to adorn doctrine and protect the gospel’s reputation.

* Older believers must intentionally mentor younger ones through relationships, not books, to pass on proven wisdom for godly living.

3. Two Common Traits for All
* To be Self-Controlled

* To be sound in our Doctrine

God has always intended that the older generations should be passing on to the younger generations the knowledge of God.

So now what?

* As a church we will declare the truths of sound doctrine.

* As Individuals members we will model what it means to lead self-controlled and godly lives
