Who the Prophets Really Were
* Ordinary citizens, not professional holy men
* Messengers of the one long promise that finds its yes in Jesus
* The same invitation stands for us: listen, speak, and live His word right where we are
The Problem with Payback
* When Judah faced rightful judgment, Edom stood aloof, gloated, looted, and joined the violence
* Pride said, “Who can bring us down?”
* Payback said, “They had it coming”
What Payback Says About Us
* It exposes pride: “Who are they to wrong me?”
* We want God to settle every score against others while we quietly hope He overlooks ours
The Day of the Lord
* God Himself steps in and settles the score
* Judgment falls on the proud; escape and restoration come to the people of the promise
* Connection to the Promise-Plan: God affirms protection of His people and judgment on enemies who oppose the promised line, pointing to the ultimate victory of God’s kingdom.
So now what?
* When the urge for payback rises, stop. Do not gloat. Hand the score to the Lord and speak grace instead of revenge.
